From the Desk of Father Mac

Twelfth Sunday of Ordinary Time
June 25th, 2017

My Dear Friends in Christ,

We all lead busy and hectic lives and sometimes the stresses of daily life can distract us from practicing our Catholic faith. When we are juggling many obligations we say to ourselves something has to give and priorities like the obligation to attend Sunday Mass can become optional. The end result is we can end up feeling distant from God.

In today’s Gospel Jesus reassures us: “Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matt 10:29-31). This beautiful saying of our Lord reminds us that God is always present to us, even amid the stresses and difficulties of our lives. He sustains us in our existence at every moment and never stops thinking about us. God never distances Himself from us. Rather, we distance ourselves from God.

The summer season is upon us and many of you will be traveling over the summer months. Don’t distance yourself from God while on vacation! We take a vacation from school or work, but we don’t take a vacation from our faith. Making the effort to attend Mass every Sunday should continue even when we are on vacation. After all, God doesn’t take a vacation from us!

To find a Sunday Mass while traveling, you can download our OneParish Mobile App and use the Mass Times Finder to find the location of a Catholic church anywhere in the world. You can also use the Donate feature in the OneParish App to make sure we receive your weekly gift to the parish while you are traveling. You may take a vacation but our bills don’t! Your weekly donations are our main source of income. I humbly ask that you continue to support your parish during these critical summer months and accept my sincere thanks for your generosity in sharing your time, talent, and treasure to support Saint Cyril’s!

Vacations are meant to be times of rest and relaxation for our bodies and peace for our mind and spirit. What better way to experience this while on vacation than to take time to be fed by God’s Word and nourished in the Eucharist by attending Sunday Mass?

In Christ,
