From the Desk of Father Mac
of Ordinary Time
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Last weekend we had a
wonderful farewell celebration for our beloved Deacon Charles
Balamaze and this weekend he returns to Uganda to make final
preparations for ordination to the priesthood. It has been a
privilege for our parish community to host Charles during the past
several years while he completed his studies at Saint John’s
Seminary in Camarillo.
I want to thank the good people of
Saint Cyril’s for your warm hospitality to Deacon Charles. As you
can imagine, it has been difficult for him to be so far away from
home and separated from family and friends. But the pain of
separation was lessened because you welcomed Charles and made him
feel at home.
I want to thank Deacon Charles for his service.
During his time with us, he has assisted at the altar, distributed
the Eucharist, preached the Word of God, baptized children,
comforted the sick and the dying, visited our school students,
visited many parishioners, and invested himself in the life of our
community and its members. Above all, he has shared the joy of his
faith and his deep love for Jesus Christ with us. He has touched
many lives and inspired us by his joyful spirit!
It has been
a deep privilege for us to be part of Charles’ journey to the
priesthood. We are very proud of him and overjoyed as he prepares to
be ordained a priest! This is also bittersweet for us because it
means we have to say goodbye to Charles. He has been a gift to us
and now we offer him back to God as gift.
during your time with us, you have been more than just a seminarian
studying for the priesthood; you have been a member of our family!
We will remember you always. Know that you are always welcome at
Saint Cyril’s and will always have a home here. We hope you can come
back and visit us and celebrate Mass one day!
you on your impending ordination to the priesthood and we ask
almighty God to bless and strengthen you as you prepare to begin
your priestly ministry and prepare for your first priestly
assignment. We send you forth with our prayers and our blessings.
May the road rise to meet you,
wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
