From the Desk of Father Mac

Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time
August 27th, 2017

My Dear Friends in Christ,

Before ascending into Heaven, Jesus gave his disciples a great commission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19). With those words, Jesus left his disciples and us, His Church, with a mission to spread the Good News and make new disciples of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

This weekend, we have the opportunity to contribute to the missionary work of our global church by making a gift to the Missionary Cooperative Plan. This annual appeal is one that helps unite the Archdiocese of Los Angeles with the Universal Church and heightens mission awareness among the people of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Each year the Archdiocese of Los Angeles invites missionaries to come and share with us the work of the Gospel being accomplished in the Missions. The money collected goes specifically to each diocese or religious community making the appeal in the parish.

This year, St. Cyril’s is pleased to host Fr. Vincent Musaby’Imana who will preach at all the Masses this weekend to share with us about the missionary work being done in the Kabale Diocese in Uganda. The missions depend on your generous support. Your gifts will help provide the resources to continue spreading the Gospel among our African brothers and sisters. This includes aid for the education and support of seminarians, religious novices and lay catechists; for the work of religious communities in education, health care and social services; for communication and transportation needs and for disaster and emergency relief when necessary.

Taking the opportunity to share in this mutually beneficial cooperative generates a zeal for the missions among this Archdiocese. Fr. Vincent’s presentation will inform us about the work in the missions and provides an opportunity for us to respond and support this important work.

There are special yellow “Missionary Cooperative Plan” envelopes in the pew racks which you can use and we will have a second collection at all the Masses this weekend to support the Mission Co-Op Appeal. As always, we thank you for your generosity in supporting not only your parish, but in assisting our brothers and sisters in the global church!

In Christ,

Pastor
