Once again, the world woke up to tragedy: At least 3,400 people were killed, and thousands more injured after a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria early on Monday Feburary 6, 2023.
“There is rubble everywhere,” said Father Bahjat Elia Karacah from Aleppo, one of Syria's most impacted cities. “Please, I beg you, do not forget about us,” he said. “We trust in international aid: here we are all in shock. The war wasn’t enough. Poverty wasn’t enough. Now, the earthquake. Please, please, do not abandon our people.”

The Together in Mission Annual Appeal is now underway. The Theme for this 30th anniversary campaign is “Shine His Light.” For the past 30 years the Catholic faithful of Los Angeles have been shining the light of Christ in our local church through gifts to Together in Mission to support the neediest parishes and schools in the Archdiocese that need outside funding in order to survive.
Your gift to Together in Mission benefits over 15,000 students attending 75 needy Catholic schools and over 500,000 families attending 65 poor parishes. Your support literally helps keep their doors open! St. Cyril's Parish goal this year is $56,601.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT ST. CYRIL SCHOOL:
The Synod on Synodality is a two-year process of listening and dialogue which began with a solemn opening in Rome on October 9 and 10, 2021 with each individual diocese and church celebrating the following week on October 17. The synodal process will conclude in 2023. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.” This journey, which follows in the wake of the Church’s “renewal” proposed by the Second Vatican Council, is both a gift and a task: by journeying together and reflecting together on the journey that has been made, the Church will be able to learn through Her experience which processes can help Her to live communion, to achieve participation, to open Herself to mission.
Our parish listening sessions were conducted in March 2022.
